“Hummingbird, Butterfly & Raven”

There is a Hummingbird 

who sleeps in my garden

At night

Hummingbird eats nectar as rain

washes his body

with the morning fragrance of dew.

 

There is a Butterfly

who sprung forth from love in the garden

The Butterfly born

from the eternal sleep of death

reborn as a gift

from the blood of the Raven

 

The Butterfly hides in the flowerbeds

inside the garden's eyes.

She flys

to the Hummingbird

in all her temperance

showing off her transparent wings

Hummingbird does not see her

nor does he know

how the heart of either the butterfly

or the garden sewed seeds of love

for twenty-seven years

how the Roses now blossom

Blooming in the garden

as love.

The Raven knows the prophecy-

When love is young

It sits in ignorance’s grace

its smile brightens

every corner of his face.

 

As the garden ages with time

Her wisdom grows

and she knows

The Hummingbird gathers

nectar from many gardens

sees and chases many butterflies

 

The Hummingbird

will one day discover too

All nectar is not the same

 

This garden holds many treasures

for the Hummingbird

who stays

Remains.
